OVERVIEW :
If you wish to travel beyond time and discover a world you have never step foot in before, Ihlara Valley should be one of the destinations you need to add to your Cappadocia travel list. It is known that this 8 mile long valley has been an important religious center since the first days of Christianity, shining light to countless churches and historical settlements scattered around. The churches with mural paintings, formed here due to the geographical properties of the region, were carved in stone, in the spirit of the monastery. If you wish to observe the architecture and stroll among the enchanting designs, you are lucky, for 14 of the destinations; Agacaltı, Sumbullu, Yılanlı, Kokar, Prenliseki, Egritas, Direkli, Saint Georgeus, Karagedik, Ala, Bezirhane, Bahattin Hayloft and Batkın Church, are open for exploration. But do prepare before starting the walk in the valley! Because it might take some time to climb down the 382 steps needed to reach here. And do not let the limited time stop you: the pergolas built on Melendiz River will allow you to have breaks during your journey, accompanied by a cup of tea.
