OVERVIEW :
Mentioned in the folk songs, the Mirrored Bazaar, located in the Bazaar Street in the center of Çanakkale, is one of the most important landmarks of the city. Told by Evliya Celebi (one of the prominent travelers of the 17th century) in his writings, the Bazaar’s known written history dates back to the Ottoman Sultan of the 19th century, Abdul Hamid II. Thought to be renovated by one of the prominent Jewish families in Çanakkale at the time, Ilya Halyo, the Bazaar was damaged after the Gallipoli campaign, but was brought to service again after various repairs.
Within the Bazaar used to be shops crafting gears for horses and selling souveneirs, It is believed that the name “Mirrored” was given to the Bazaar due to the blinders produced for horses in the shops, forming a sense of likening.
